In the Best Feedback I got, the Giver's...

It was Ken Blanchard who said: “Feedback is the breakfast of champions” and to my knowledge, the late Rai Bahadur Mohan Singh Oberoi of the Oberoi Hotels epitomized it literally and figuratively on his Sunday breakfast table.

Early this month, I was facilitating a session on feedback skills for about 20 project managers of a client.

I use mind maps extensively in my work. Accordingly, one of the exercises the participants had to engage in was to recall some of the best feedback they had received in their life and unpack that experience on the parameters mentioned in the first level branches of the mind map you see in the image.

This is what came up as a result.

It brought out so much of depth and clarity.

To the best of my sensing, at the end of this exercise it evaporated whatever hesitation was left in the participants regarding the importance of asking for feedback from people whom you trust, respect and admire enough to hold you to a higher account.

More on this tomorrow.
