A recommendation I loved writing

Shammiji, as I call him is a special person for me who clarified lot of things for me which helped learn a bit more about non-violent communication and begin the life long journey of training myself in the ways of NVC.

The two most memorable things for me what he he shared are:

-1. NVC is training in sainthood.
-2. An enemy is a person whose story you don't know yet.

I attended two workshops with him in Gudgaon in 2012 and then at Zorba, The Buddha sometime in 2013 where he took me deeper into understanding the meaning of needs behind behaviours. He facilitated a role-play for me with mother whereafter I had a profound laugh. I laughed hard because I had an epiphanic and profound understanding of the needs my mother was trying to meet each time she would push me away when I tried to help her in the kitchen and each time I tried to introduce waste segregation in the kitchen.

He has a great gentle way of being and doing; the impact of which has stayed with me since then and the importance of which I am still uncovering and successfully applying in my own training and facilitation work.

I was lucky to have him as teacher who opened a small window inward that opens out into a large world outside in understanding self and others. It helped me get better at empathy and expression.

It wasn't easy but over a period of time I have gotten much better in beginning to explore, enquire and understand the unmet needs others are trying to achieve through the behaviours which are the best limited strategies they may know at that point in their life.

I have also gotten better in being able to hold myself back, think better and then express my needs as a request than issue commands, threats and dictates.

As a result things have gotten better for me and those around 😊😊😊

This empathetic explorative dialogue has often helped me and others to creatively and jointly find better ways of meeting each other's needs.

I believe that you learn best what you teach forward.

And hence to get better at my own understanding of NVC, I took up opportunities to integrate, share and facilitate on the NVC model in my corporate training and communication workshops.

Among other things, I teach this approach while explaining integrative-negotiation in my sessions on negotiations and stakeholder management.

Each time I do that, Shammiji's face, genteel voice and his easy being comes up for me to be guided and inspired in the process.

I am not doing justice to him here as I don't get to mention much about his passion for the environment, organic farming, healthy cooking and eating. I have relished the healthy and tasty laddus he made for all of us at the Zorba, The Buddha in August or September of 2014.

I wish him well and wish that more people gain from his life long dedication and commitment to such an important and worthy need as non-violent communication.

Atma Namaste Shammiji.

😌🙏🏽
