"Turn the searchlight inwards"
I was just now talking to a young colleague who was putting together a design on accountability and wanted my input on it.
Leadership, taking ownership, initiative and responsibility sometimes become mere fancy punchlines that are casually thrown around quite a lot.
We can see some people use these words without really understanding what these words truly mean in terms of day to day implications on our choices, behaviour and the impact they create at multiple levels.
And what is easier for people with no honourable values, low self-esteem and higher insecurities is to constantly find ways to blame others, invent mistakes in others and keep a constant attack on others to keep a certain searchlight away from them while constantly keeping another type of spotlight on themselves.
I am waiting for the day when accountability and that too, personal accountability becomes such a common place phenomena that it is no more a buzz word.
That's when things go to the next orbit.
But well, for that to happen, we need a higher social degree of applied values like truthfulness and moral courage.
At this moment I simply remember the title of a book I once picked up from the sidewalk book stall at MG Road in Bangalore:
"I am out to change my world." by Ann Kiemel.
